Habitat

Big horns live in California, Nevada, Arizona, Aihoda, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, etc. in the United States.

Characteristic

The big horn is 150-200 cm long and weighs 70-140 kg. Males are larger than females. Hair is usually taupe, and the abdomen and buttocks are white. Big horns live mainly in mountainous areas centered on the Rocky Mountains such as the United States and Canada. Bighorn sheep make seasonal movements, even descending into valleys and climbing mountains. The superiority of males is determined by the size of the horns, and during the breeding season, males collide with each other over females. It is known to collide with each other at speeds as high as 30 km / h. The sound of the horns hitting each other lasts for hours until one of them admits to losing and runs away. Bighorn sheep have few single actions and live in groups. Sometimes we form a herd of more than 100 heads. Foreign enemies include coyotes, pumas, wolves, and bears.

Ecology

Bighorns live on grass, leaves, and tree branches. The breeding form is embryo. Polygamy, most of the breeding takes place from autumn to early winter, with a gestation period of 150-180 days. You can give birth to one at a time. The breastfeeding period of a child is about 4 months, and sexual maturity takes about 2 to 3 years. Females continue to live in groups, while males often fledge. The lifespan is about 19 years in the wild.

Endangered species

There are five variants of the Big Horn, including the Aujubon Big Horn, the California Big Horn, the Rocky Big Horn, the Mexican Big Horn, and the Nelson Big Horn. Some of the subspecies suffer from habitat loss. In addition, bighorn sheep have huge horns, but there are so many hunts aimed at these horns that the population is still declining. Conservation activities began in 1936 in Arizona. In 1939, the Cofa National Wildlife Sanctuary and the Cabessa Prieta National Wildlife Sanctuary were created to protect animals. Hunting is permitted in the United States and Canada, but it is strictly regulated. Bighorn sheep used to be common in northern Mexico, but they are rarely seen.

Breeding

Big horns are becoming hunting regulated in the United States and Canada, raising the bar for breeding. It can be difficult to breed because it is an endangered species in some areas. Watch at the zoo or go to America or Canada.
