Habitat

The Brazilian three-banded armillo inhabits only Brazil.

Characteristic

The Brazilian three-banded arm is 20-30 cm long and weighs 1-2 kg. Like other armored animals, the body is covered with a scaly armored shield on the head, dorsal side, and tail. There are three bands on the back. When intimidated by an enemy, it curls up into a ball-like shape, protecting itself by having hard armor-like skin on the outside and a soft belly on the inside. armillo helps protect itself from many predators by curling up. Natural enemies are pumas and jaguars. The Brazilian three-banded arm inhabits dry grasslands and open forest areas. I prefer to live alone, but sometimes I form small groups. There are 4 fingers on the forelimbs and 5 fingers on the hindlimbs, and you can run fast by sticking the big claws on the fingers of the forelimbs into the ground.

Ecology

The Brazilian three-banded armillo eats ants and termites. They also eat insects, earthworms, and snails. armillo searches for food by the sense of smell and eats it by rolling it up with a long sticky tongue. The breeding season is from October to January. With a gestation period of about 120 days, one can be born at a time. Children open their eyes in about 3-4 weeks and need about 10 weeks to breastfeed. The Brazilian three-banded arm is sexually matured 9-12 months after birth. I have lived in captivity for up to 35 years.

Endangered species

The habitat of the Brazilian three-banded arm is not so large by nature. Most Armadillos live in a fairly limited area. In their habitat, they can be eaten and overfished. In addition, Armagiro lives in forest areas, but its habitat is gradually decreasing due to deforestation. The Brazilian three-banded armillo is currently designated as an endangered species. Brazilian three-banded armillo has also become the mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup hosted by Brazil. This made this Armadillo recognized all over the world.

Breeding

Due to the very small population of the Brazilian three-banded arm, it is quite difficult for the general public to breed. Watch at the zoo or go to Brazil.
