Characteristic

An adult male cape lion weighs 230 kg, is 300 cm long, and is 106 cm tall. The cape lion was the largest species of sub-Saharan lion. Cape lions once lived in most areas except the rainforests and the Sahara Desert, and are said to have lived throughout Greece, Asia Minor and Africa. The skull is similar to a tiger, but the body is shorter and the limbs are longer than the tiger. The ears have a rounded tip, and the back of the pinna has a black base and vitiligo. Body color, mane length and color varied from region to region. Cape lions usually form a herd of around 10 and live. The running speed is 48-60km / h.

Ecology

Cape lion hunting usually takes place from evening to night. Cape lions prey on wildebeests, zebras, thomson’s gazelle, wild boar and more. The breeding season has no fixed time and is held all year round. The gestation period is 100 to 116 days. You can give birth to 1-4 heads at a time. The child’s eyes will fully open in 2 to 3 weeks and will be milking for 8 to 10 weeks. You will be able to walk in about 3 weeks and will reach sexual maturity at the age of 3-4. The life is about 25 years.

Endangered species

The cape lion is extinct. It was once widely distributed in Greece, the Middle East and Africa. However, when the area around South Africa was dominated by Britain and the Netherlands, lions were hunted by European hunters. Only a few decades after the first British settlers, the number of 10,000 Cape Lions has dropped to just 100. Furthermore, in order to develop mineral resources, land development has progressed, and there are no areas where lions can live. In the 20th century, it is finally impossible to confirm the habitat. The last cape lion in captivity is said to be the male Cape Lion, who died in 1860 at the Menagerie Zoo in Paris.
