The staple food is grass. Food is packed in cheek pouches and carried to burrows for storage. The breeding form is embryo. Copulate within a week after hibernation. Mating usually occurs in female burrows. You can lay 2-9 cubs at a time. Sexual maturity is about 1 year, and lifespan is about 5 to 10 years. European ground squirrels are monogamous.
