The posture is not upright, but slightly leaning forward. Feathers on the back are bluish black, bluish gray. The abdomen is white. Unlike other penguins, it does not have flashy color patterns or crests. Foraging is carried out during the daytime, and a school of small fish of 12 cm or less is followed and eaten. On land, they are completely nocturnal and tend to go out to sea early in the morning and return to land after dark in the evening.
It is said to have a rough temper and is aggressive. Unlike its cute name and appearance, it is extremely sensitive and aggressive to foreign enemies. Also, they are very territorial and may be attacked if they step on them unnecessarily.
