Designated as an endangered species

Such a little penguin is designated as an endangered species. It has been pointed out that the rise in seawater temperature may make it difficult to find food for little penguins, it is said that they may become extinct. Little penguins have been declining for decades, and it has become clear that penguins tend to avoid hot seawater areas.

Habitat

It inhabits the coasts of Tasmania, New Zealand from the south coast of Australia. Many little penguins live in colonies on the islands along the eastern, southern coasts of Australia, walking along the coast at night heals the hearts of people. However, little penguins don’t seem to like anything other than territory, and they only go out to pick up fish.

Characteristics

The posture is not upright, but slightly leaning forward. Feathers on the back are bluish black, bluish gray. The abdomen is white. Unlike other penguins, it does not have flashy color patterns or crests. Foraging is carried out during the daytime, and a school of small fish of 12 cm or less is followed and eaten. On land, they are completely nocturnal and tend to go out to sea early in the morning and return to land after dark in the evening.

Personality

It is said to have a rough temper and is aggressive. Unlike its cute name and appearance, it is extremely sensitive and aggressive to foreign enemies. Also, they are very territorial and may be attacked if they step on them unnecessarily.
